After several false starts, it appears that I have landed an ideal job, albeit, not a perfect one, but a place I feel both comfortable in and challenged. It's similar to my other bar gigs, with the exception being that this particular is run by a husband/wife team that not only know their shit, but treat their employees generously.
I'm five shifts deep and thank GOD I have tonight off. Although I have done the Bar Back/Busser/Food Runner thing before, I haven't done it full time since last December, right before I broke my foot. So I'm a bit rusty, and my body is sore.
Although it doesn't take a genius to do this line of work, it takes a certain level of physical dexterity to keep up; I always compare it to exercising for 6-8 hours straight while wearing jeans and carrying objects awkward and occasionally very heavy, while dodging people (hence the title of this post).
Overall it feels very, Very, VERY good to be fully and gainfully employed again, especially for people that are worth busting my ass for. Even better - it's in my 'hood, so being able to walk to and from work is simply the cherry on top.
I have a lot of lost time to make up for, both in terms of catching up on debt, but also getting back into the mindset of being on a strict schedule. I won't be able to see my friends as much, let alone THE BOY. But in the long run I'm certain it will all work out for the best.
