FEMALE MUD WRESTLING!

Tonight I went to see the Mud Queens in action; this is a monthly-ish eveny in which many of my co-workers are involved. It was fun, to say the least. The ref, whose main job was to make sure the girls didn't fall off the stage, is actually my boss. To see him covered in mud was hilarious many times over.

These women were serious as a heart attack too. But after the 1 minute rounds were over, they displayed admirable sportsmanship, and picked one another up. And they threw lots of mud at us spectators - my jacket is coated in whatever special mixture of mud they perfected. I'm glad I wore my crappy pair of Adidas shoes.

One of the female servers I work with won the first round; I was cheering my heart out. Before she went on stage she admitted to me she was in a good mood, and needed someone to piss her off. Being a good HOMO, I made fun of of her shoes and that seemed to do the trick - she WON!

Overall it was a good, and more importantly necessary night out. It's not often that I can "work" a room full of various people I know, all of which are variously connected to the bar I work at. And that's not bragging, but rather a fairly new social circle I guess I now travel within. So...yeah!

THE SOUTHERN THING

Yet another of my favorite songs EVER. I've seen these guys perform this song live several times, and I have the hearing loss to prove it. The video below barely does it justice. Best part: "To the fucking rich man all poor people look the same. WORD on that.

Ain't about my pistol
Ain't about my boots
Ain't about no northern drives
Ain't about my southern roots
Ain't about my guitars, ain't about my big old amps
"It ain't rained in weeks, but the weather sure feels damp"
Ain't about excuses or alibis
Ain't about no cotton fields or cotton picking lies
Ain't about the races, the crying shame
To the fucking rich man all poor people look the same

Don't get me wrong It just ain't right
May not look strong, but I ain't afraid to fight
If you want to live another day
Stay out the way of the southern thing

Ain't about no hatred better raise a glass
It's a little about some rebels but it ain't about the past
Ain't about no foolish pride, Ain't about no flag
Hate's the only thing that my truck would want to drag

You think I'm dumb, maybe not too bright
You wonder how I sleep at night
Proud of the glory, stare down the shame
Duality of the southern thing

My Great Great Granddad had a hole in his side
He used to tell the story to the family Christmas night
Got shot at Shiloh, thought he'd die alone
From a Yankee bullet, less than thirty miles from home
Ain't no plantations in my family tree
Did NOT believe in slavery, thought that all men should be free
"But, who are these soldiers marching through my land?"
His bride could hear the cannons and she worried about her man

I heard the story as it was passed down
About guts and glory and Rebel stands
Four generations, a whole lot has changed
Robert E. Lee
Martin Luther King
We've come a long way rising from the flame
Stay out the way of the southern thing

IT'S LIKE THE NIGHT BEFORE CHRISTMAS!

I might be staring down the big ol' 30, but I feel like a little kid right now. The reason? WIDESPREAD MOTHERFUCKIN' PANIC tonight! WOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOT! And to top it off, The Allman Brothers are playing too. Gawdawmn, I'm getting slightly tumescent just thinking about how fuckin' hard tonight is gonna rock. And if that wasn't enough, I'm repeating it all tomorrow night too! Oh, and did I mention the venue if the former site of Meigs Field, situated right on the Lake Michigan, with the Chicago skyline in the background? And 2 of my bestest friends will be flanking my sides. [Take a breath!] This is going to kick SO MUCH ASS. While I'm writing this I'm rawking wit da cawk out to a song called "Fishwater".

Four train days
Get me back to New Orleans
Drink more fishwater there
Than any whale's mama ever seen
Alright tonight
I've been fueling my dreams eatin greens and beans
When I get back down there
I'm gonna drink more fish stew
Than all the big fishes do

And I still want more
I still want more
More...
I still want more

Gimme tonight
Gonna dream my way on back
Spend my life down there
Down on that bourbon street
Watch my money, and mind my legs down in New Orleans
Can't tell which mens turns womens there
And which womens just turns mean

And I still want more
I still want more
More...
I still want more

I've seen Widespread Panic at least 30 times, in various locales stretching from LA to DC, and many, many places in between. It's been a t least 2 years since I last saw my boys. It's all I can do not to tap my foot incessantly. More evidence of my excitement, is the phone call I'll attempt to transcribe between my Mom and myself yesterday:

MOM: "Hey honey...someones birthday is soon..."
ME: "NO FUCKING SHIT, WIDESPREAD MOTHERFUCKIN' PANIC is coming to town tomorrow to celebrate!"
MOM: "Ahhh, that's so nice."
ME: "NO FUCKING SHIT! Allman Brothers too!"

Can you tell I'm a tad bit excited? And this lyric makes me so fucking happy "if was life was a dream money could buy, the rich would live and the poor would die." I'm mos def in the latter catergory, but guess what? I FEEL SO ALIVE!
