STEP TWO

Perhaps it's a dramatic move, but I made a big decision tonight: I poured out a handle of vodka and 9 cans of beer. I immediately regretted it, but on reflection, felt better. I'm trying y'all. I'm TRYING.

Hi J:

Take some time to evaluate your situation.

Reflect and introspect.

Just because you had an unfortunate event recently, that does not mean that you should feel bad about yourself or that you are doomed to a life branded as an addict or alcoholic.

You are young and you are having fun; perhaps this time it got out of hand. Learn from it.

Do not over-react; relax.

Reading some of these comments, I think those that are so ready to tell you that you are on some path of ruin and destruction and, ultimately, make you feel that you need to radically change are nothing but hypocrites.

No doubt, this is a significant event; however, my advice is that you put it in perspective.

You are a good person; remember that.

This, too, shall pass.

Justin,

Congrats. It's a big step. It'll be tough. But it's worth it.

Google "gayaachicago", and attend a few different meetings. It'll take a while to latch onto the vibe, but if you find a good group of friends in sobriety, they're worth their weight in gold. They'll be supportive and non-judgemental.

Take care of yourself, and those whom you love.

Ten down for the homies you didn't accidentally kill that night?? Though I still reserve the right to spank your dumb ass when I see you, I know that you don't need preaching right now. You have a lot of people on your team, supporting you, and I hope that you take this opportunity and milk it for every life lesson you possibly can. That car accident was, believe it or not, the Universe giving you a *gentle* reminder that some shit in your life needs to go in a different direction. I love you dearly, Bitchface, and I can't wait to see what you do with all of this. I know you will come out okay in the end. BTW- the 19th is one year of Bill's sobriety, something NO ONE thought he could or would do. He will be the first to tell you that life is a whole lot better in a whole lot of different ways. There are challenges, of course, but it is worth it. And honestly, once he got used to it, I don't think it is even that hard for him.... Love!
