THE NEW BACK ROOM

Once upon a time there existed a dining room in a very old apartment building in Chicago. The same woman inhabited it for many, many years. Perhaps since the 1960's. Then she died. And then a blond woman and a gay man, both in their 20's moved in. The blond had a lot of books...

...but alas, Roomie moved out, and took everything in this room with her (including the cat). So last weekend I moved some old furniture out from storage to fill the space, and I decided to paint. I wanted a nice "happy" color, and I couldn't be more satisfied than I am with the result.

That bookshelf will soon be deposited in my alley where it will presumably disappear within hours. Look at how lame this room looked before I painted it...

The color is actually a lot more gold in person, but my shitty digital camera is obsessed with it's flash. This is now my favorite place in the world to spend time (note the Sunday Chicago Tribune, cocktail and cigarette, not to mention my iPod hooked up to the stereo).

If it looks like those wood floors are gleaming, they fucking better be. I bought and broke 2 mops this week and just got another one from Target tonight. This room reeks of Murphy's Oil Soap and dope...like I said, my favorite place in the world.
