BOXING

At the end of July my annual membership is up at my gym. There is another, and seemingly superior gym close by that I'm considering joining, although it's a little more expensive than the one I currently go to. This other place has additional amenities that would seemingly justify it's higher price tag, though I doubt whether I would utilize them (for one thing, I am not a swimmer, thus the benefit of having access to an Olympic sized pool would be lost on me).

As things currently stand with my current gym, I pay a reduced rate since I've been able to con them into giving me the rate I received through my previous employer.

Used to be that I would make it to the gym 3 times a week without a second thought. But lately I've been dreading it. The same routine, the same faces and the same issue with finding street parking has made me not go more than once as of late. It's not that I don't want to work out, rather the thought of returning to the same place yet again is not one that motivates me.

In addition to considering options like the slick/hospital-attached gym, I have recently been pondering yet another alternative: Boxing.

This would likely elicit laughter from those that know me, and I'll admit it would be completely out of character for me to participant in such a sport. That being said there exists a semi-professional training facility mere blocks from my apartment that boasts 2 full boxing rings, a weight room and other training facilities.

The end goal would not to enter any sort of competition; rather I think this could be an interesting and entertaining alternative to hitting the gym as I currently do. Perhaps I may sound like a vicious asshole, but the thought of spending an hour or so jacking someone in the face in a controlled/supervised environment is preferable to using a treadmill and/or an elliptical trainer.

This idea didn't appear out of thin air. My brother's girlfriend has been taking similar classes for a few weeks now, and if she can do it, I would like think that I could too - not to mention enjoy it in the process. Research will be conducted this week into the details involved in said process.

If your goals are mostly cardio, I say go for it! But if you want to also do weight training, perhaps you should just get a trainer to motivate you or create a new routine.
