When I obtain a new album I usually do one of 2 things, instantly listen to it until I can listen to it no more, or allow it to gradually grow on me until it becomes part of my internal soundtrack. Deer Tick, a group fronted by 21 year old singer/songwriter John McCauley falls into the latter category.
Over the last few weeks I listened to their recent album "War Elephant" sparingly, if at all. But for whatever reason today something clicked in my head and I cannot get enough of this band, especially the song "Dirty Dishes".
I am not sure why John McCauley choose a bathroom at a bar for an impromptu live version of this song, but the video is below. Singers with odd, slightly fucked up voices have always resonated with me, and this guy is no different. It's probably how I would sound had I the ability to sing...
