This sucks so fucking bad...as I walked out of work today I received a text message from my friend that read "Dood, you're gym closed this afternoon". Seeing as this friend works 2 blocks from said gym I figured he was a credible source.
After I got home I searched Google News which confirmed that my gym, and the other locations, had closed due to "employee theft". The following message was sent via e-mail to members:
Dear Members:
Cheetah Gym has been closed due to employee theft and graft. The degree of corruption was enormous. I was left in a position where I could trust no-one or anything. Most of the problems were at the Bucktown facility. Edgewater, I believe, was relatively free of graft. The scams ran the gamut but it looks like I was the sole victim of theft. However, I urge you to get fraud protection as a precaution.
I do not mean to implicate the entire staff. There were many good and honest people that worked at Cheetah.
Some will herald this news as good while others will be sad. Others will be very angry. I tried my hardest to save it and take back control but it was clear I would not be allowed that opportunity. I was forced to have to employ people who should have been fired. I was in a Catch 22. Employ people who were probably bad and stay open or fire them and close. The final straw came yesterday when the RGM left payroll incomplete and I was left to try and finish it as best I could. Many new employees could not be paid because I was not given their information. The RGM should have been the first to be fired. When she quit we were left with many shifts not covered and no-one to cover them. I had hoped to be able to run them long enough to reinstate the infrastructure. But the task was too great.
You will have to do what you need to do to assert your individual interests. I hope to prosecute the guilty people or at least sue them. But I am likely in the same boat the rest of my staff is in. I am unemployed.
It was an honor to serve you.
David Wilshire
Fuck! I loved my gym, it was close by, the people that worked there were super nice and knew me by name, it was very affordable...AND there were more gay guys than straight guys. Basically, it was perfect (except for the awful techno music). And WTF is this about needing to obtain fraud protection?
I am a ship without a harbor...and I need to burn off the calories I consumed over the weekend! Argh!

Well, doesn't that pretty much blow Donkey Dick.
Sorry man.
well how do you think the readers of this blog who were hoping maybe to run into you one day at the gym felt? huh? yep, i have been there sometimes and thought, 'hmm, i wonder if that's him!' or maybe that was him! or, 'oh, hey, there's a guy who seems similar to someone he has talked about, huh!' etc., etc.
seriously though [wait maybe i was serious about the above] i hope you have contacted your bank if you had membership deducted from an account or debit card or your credit card co. if you went that route.
Me, i am praying [as well as writing -- maybe i should start an online petition and you can sign it!] for the people who operate the multiplex on Halsted to move Uptown!
You need fraud protection to protect yourself in case an employee is going to try to steal your identity or otherwise fuck up your credit.
@Billy: yes, it sure as shit does blow.
@James: how about a David Barton gym in Uptown?
@Jessica: I spoke with my bank today, I'm good to go...
James... I told him about the mulitplex on Halsted (which I'm a member of). I hope it does not move to uptown though because it's a perfect location for me. You should join it also James. We could start our own "Monthly Workout Log" like others I've read are doing.
